The Magic of Summer
Summer is a season filled with its own special magic…the days are long and filled with light. Living in the south, summer stretches from from May to September with heat and humidity. Our summer includes lots of time around pools, beaches or lakes. We spend time on picnics and porches.
In most regions, summers usually include vacations, camps, cookouts and other outdoor fun. Soaking up the sun is good for the soul. Summer invites us to play… Play is something we don’t always allow ourselves to do once we become adults. Part of the process of growing into adulthood convinces us that being more serious is required. But, play is an important part of the process of finding joy. Adopting a spirit of play and celebration can help us lean into joy more deeply.
The earth shares her bounty during the summer months…we move from juicy, fresh fruit in the late spring into tomatoes, spring onions, sweet corn and fresh herbs in the summer. Perhaps this is the earth’s own version of celebration and play. This display of abundance is sure to bring a smile to your face if you take the time to look and savor.
One of the many lessons I learned during the pandemic was to savor my blessings more fully. I hope to hold on to this lesson as life resumes its more natural rhythm. Summer provides me with such ample opportunity to experience gratitude for so many different things. There are possibilities for joy everywhere if I will focus on them.
In order to share this joy with others, I have prepared a guided meditation focused on the joys and magic of summer that I want to dwell on. Hopefully, it will help you to celebrate summer as well.
