Let’s Picnic!
At the beginning of the summer, while having lunch with a group of friends, I made the comment that I love early summer. I said I loved the first days that the pool is open, flowers blooming, going on picnics.
When we got to that point, my friends said, “Picnics? Do you go on a lot of picnics?” After that, we had a conversation about what constitutes a real picnic. I think they were envisioning picnics to be the type of thing that needed special baskets and blankets out on a lawn under a tree.
From my prospective, a picnic is anytime you are eating in a casual way outside. I guess another component is that you brought the food with you. Going to a restaurant and sitting outside is probably not included.
Tailgates, time out on the boat, lunch on the dock, sandwiches at the beach- all of these are picnics. Don’t we love them all? When the summer gets extra hot, a picnic is best enjoyed near some water, particularly if there is a breeze involved.
With picnicking on the brain, I have compiled ideas in my most recent newsletter to add sparkle to your next picnic. Of course, it's perfectly acceptable to enjoy these treats indoors as well. Hope they add a spark to your next gathering.
