Keeping Things Breezy

Have you heard? There is a new style trend called Coastal Grandmother.  It is trending on Tiktok and other social media platforms.  The term was coined by 26 year old influencer Lex Nicoleta.  You don’t have to be a grandmother or live at the beach in order to enjoy it.  The aesthetic applies to personal style as well as home interiors.  Those who seek a comfortable, breezy look will fit right in.

If you are trying to catch the flavor, think Nancy Meyers movies (Something’s Got to Give, It’s Complicated, etc.).  What you see in these movies are grand kitchens, lovely gardens and bucket hats.  The focus is on a simple wardrobe using neutral tones.

It’s easy to see the outward signs of a Costal Grandmother.  Anyone can spot a cozy cardigan and flowy pants.  However, it's the basis of this style trend that’s really appealing to me.   It’s about the way you live your life- slowing down and enjoying the moment.  It’s cooking an Ina Garten recipe while listening to slow jazz.  Keeping life breezy and uncomplicated.    Who couldn’t get behind that?

Mature women like Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, Martha Stewart, and Oprah are a few examples of those displaying the coastal grandmother vibe.  A Coastal Grandmother is effortlessly stylish and feels confident in her own skin.  She is living life on her own terms and has let go of the world’s definitions of her success.  That seems pretty dreamy!

If you are a grandmother or live on the coast, you get bonus points!  The rest of us will have to take our inspiration where we see it.  As the summer heats up and my garden begins to grow, I’ll be gathering herbs and wearing flowy clothing.  Although I'm not sure about the bucket hat just yet, Coastal Grandmother, count me in!
